"The Borderline" Deleted Scenes

This is the deleted footage from The Borderline that was shown to people who participated in HKTV's stress test earlier.

  1. Ah...these are the scenes they deleted from the first episode! I wish they would have kept those scenes in, as they are pretty essential to the plot in my opinion (plus the kid that plays Lawrence and Joman's son is super cute so I would love to see more of him...lol). I wonder if they will include the scenes back in when the series is official released next week....

  2. wow I am glad they deleted those scenes. if they kept those scenes, they would automatically look like a TVB show.

I am glad a lot of these ex-TVB screenwriters and directors get more freedom, rather than being kept in a "zoo-like" environment at TVB but it seems they kept some of the old thinking.

For example, like that scene when Eagle and his wife barged into the meeting with the officers and then we get this melodramatic moment, eventually escalating to the point when the wife says she wants a divorce. That looked like something TVB would do, it's so cheesy and I don't think HKTV should be heading in that direction.

Another scene is when Wong-sir asked Eagle's wife for a drink and looked like Wong-sir had a thing for her. That also looked something TVB would do, create these unnecessary scenes.

    1. @llwy12 and ch1kusoo: I think some of the deleted scenes were important and some were not. I think they should have included the part where Eagle snoops around at the police office and the scene at the abandoned house because it illustrates how reckless his character is. But I definitely agree that having Wong Sir in love with Eagle's wife is useless.

    2. Agreed that those 2 scenes weren't necessary -- especially the one where they barge into the room and start arguing with each other over personal matters right in front of their bosses -- that was a really weird scene indeed...glad they didn't include that one, since people would've probably complained about it.

With that said though, I feel they should have included a few of the other scenes back in, such as when Eagle steals that document from the police files and is trying to put it back together at home -- and also the part where he goes to hunt down that guy and ends up being captured and beaten up....both those scenes show just how 'crazy' and 'impulsive' his character is in terms of wanting to find the guy who hurt his son....to me, it's essential to his character's development.

I have to go back and re-watch episode 1 because I sort of recall some of those supposed deleted scenes being in that episode...I think they might have cut some of the scenes short or re-filmed some of them...

Most of the scriptwriters who left TVB for HKTV had worked at TVB for decades, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's hard for them to "break" some of the habits and way of thinking that was ingrained in them for so long (same with the directors and producers). I actually feel they already did a pretty good job given the short amount of time they had to adjust to a completely new (and different) working environment. The creative freedom that they have at HKTV is definitely priceless.

    3. @miriamfanz: Funny...both of us thought exactly the same thing (and posted our responses at exactly the same time too...lol).

I think that scene with Eagle crashing the gangsters' hideout was in the preview for episode 2. A lot of the scenes in this video are either supposedly for Ep1 or Ep2.

    1. @ch1kusoo: Oh...hmmm. I need to go back and re-watch episode 1 as well as episode 2's preview then...because timing wise, that scene should be from episode 1, since Eagle had already been framed for murder at the end of episode 1 and gets arrested before he even leaves the hospital (unless they do that scene as a flashback scene in episode 2).
